I'm sure you've all probably played or at least heard of Everquest here *shudder*. Yeah, I know, it was a pretty lame game, and an insane time-sink, but it was one of the fore-fathers of the online gaming arena. The way the races worked in EQ was a lot more simple. You have 12 Races, 13 with the first expansion, that you could choose from, you select a race, and then select a class from that race. Any race could go anywhere, and talk to anyone, and do pretty much whatever they wanted with relation to other players, the only thing you had to worry about was the Troll NPC's coming to open a can of whoop-ass on your newly made Half Elf Paladin, lol. In DAoC however, it's a little bit different, the race you choose is a lot more involved than the simplistic idea of EQ. In DAoC it matters a hell of a lot more what realm you are in, and ultimately, what classes and races will be available to you, because, you can ONLY talk to members of your own realm, anyone outside your realm will simply speak crap, it'll all be jumbled up, and you wont understand a work of it, this is to promote a different language I believe, and it will be very effective in making sure that PVP will be PVP, and you wont have all the l33t h4x0r d00dz all teaming up with characters that are completely out of character and sort of ruining the game with this kind of action. Anyways, without further babble, here is some information on what races and realms there are :)
Realm of AlbionBecause Albion is the remnant of King Arthur's kingdom, the races that players can choose from in this Realm are all based on the Arthurian Legends.
Realm of MidgardThe Norse inhabitants of Midgard are hardy mix of human and creature, but all are rough, tough, and love battle. As such, the Norse are the best fighters, but have the weakest magic, which is mostly limited to the priests of their different gods.
Realm of HiberniaThe Realm of Hibernia, located on an Island just to the west of Albion, is a combination of nature-worshipping humans and magical elvish "Undermountain" creatures. The two forces have joined together to fight their common enemies. In general, Hibernian races are more attuned to magic (both natural and supernatural) than the other Realms, although they are not quite as good at armed combat.
